a home away from home
Merida is approaching one million inhabitants, as people come from all over Mexico and the world to experience the relaxed pace of life, still-revered Mayan culture and warmer climate, among many other things. Our two rooms provide a quiet respite from the busy city outside, offering privacy when you need it and a family atmosphere when you want some company. Our sparkling pool, lush garden and filling breakfasts round out the feeling of being taken care of like friends of the family.
market tours, classes and private meals for plant food enthusiats
We all know the famous dishes of Yucatan, from Cochinita Pibil to Panuchos and Sopa de Lima. But what about all those exciting and unknown fruits and vegetables in the markets and on street vendors' tables? At Casa Misterio, our goal is to share these locally grown treasures with foreigners, supporting the Yucatecans who grow and sell them along the way. Check out our classes, market tours and private chef services for all lovers of plant foods.
authentic neighborhood
Barrio San Sebastian is a truly special place.
As Merida expands in all directions,
our neighborhood has maintained its authentic local feel. Still an easy walk or cheap taxi ride
from the Plaza Grande, in San Sebastian you will be removed from the crowds, tour groups and salespeople. Here you can live the local life
during your stay, greeting the neighbors
or watching a softball game in the park,
eating poc-chuc cooked right across the street
or wiling away the afternoon with a cold beer
and plentiful botanas at the corner "bar familiar."
uncover Merida's mysteries with us
We are proud to call this city, state and country home and we adore its every nook
and cranny; its many churches and parks, Saints Days and ferias,
nature and wildlife, urban splendor and regional delicacies;
even its sometimes flooded streets and speedy buses.
We love it all and we want to share it with you!
One of Merida's most iconic landmarks and the oldest cathedral on the North American mainland.
Rides, food, music and more celebrate Barrio San Sebastian's patron saint every late August.
One of our favorite day trips, easily accessible by bus and across the street from the Museo del Cacao!
Just 40 minutes from Casa Misterio Merida, El Corchito is an eco-preserve with wildlife, cenotes and a boat ride.
where so much of the action is, from live music to craft vendors and fried regional treats.
A favorite of ours at Casa Misterio, Parque San Juan is also a great place to people watch while enjoying a juice or ice cream.
